The National Defense Education Act was passed in 1958 to give aid to all schools, private and public. It was made to provide aid to be able to teach more of the core subjects, like mathematics, social studies, English, and science. It also provides aid in many other areas such as geography, and programs that have English as a second language. They provide money to the schools libraries, guidance centers and media centers. The government has recently decided that they want to update this act to in cooperate new technology within the act.
